“The mind of a man plans his way, but the Lord determines his steps.” Proverbs 16:9 (King Solomon)
The past few months have added a significant amount of financial anxiety to our lives. Whether employed or unemployed, rich or poor, the uncertainty of the future causes all of us to stop and think about what could or should be. Personally, I find myself going back and forth like a ping-pong ball: One day I’m deeply concerned about our economy, our country, and our leaders; and the next I’m 100% confident that the One who achieved victory at Calvary has everything securely in His control, now and forever more.
How about you? How have you been processing your personal circumstances as related to the financial meltdown, the election, the war, and rumors of wars?
I want to suggest a principle that will help you, and me, balance the two extremes between our part and God’s part. First, work like it’s totally up to you! Take initiative (do the next right thing), focus on the things you can control, solve the problem, and capitalize on the opportunity. Second, pray like it’s totally up to God! Pray that He will work out supernaturally all the issues at hand. He may change the situation, or He may change you (or me) as a result of talking with Him. Pray without ceasing, and don’t give up.
One way to work like it’s totally up to you is to assess your current financial condition. How do your financial practices compare to Biblical principles. Visit www.daveramsey.com to learn from an expert on what God says about our finances or take Dave’s Free Financial Reality Check-up.
One way to pray like it’s totally up to God is to take the source of any anxiety to the Lord in prayer. Commit to spending 10 minutes a day on this one topic alone until you receive victory over the anxiety. He’s promised us a peace that passes all logic, all understanding.
